Vedrova keeps your business moving: an overview of Q2 2024 of the European Freight Rate benchmark

Joeri Verhagen and Yuliya Yakimova from Vedrova attended an interesting webinar. Within this blog post we share the most important insights from the Q2 2024 webinar of the European Freight Rate benchmark.

Adapting to rate fluctuations

Spot and contract rates in the road freight market follow the economic conjuncture. Consumers remain cautious and households prioritize saving over spending, which pressures the economic growth in Europe, spot rates are rising incrementally. We are dedicated to monitor these fluctuations closely, ensuring we secure the best possible rates for your shipments. By leveraging our extensive network of carriers, we try our utmost to keep your costs in check while maintaining our renowned quality in service.

Embracing market growth

Despite the current economic challenges, the road freight volume in the EU is projected to grow. With a small 0.4% increase expected in 2024 and a more robust 1.6% growth in 2025, there’s an upward trajectory. We’re ready to meet the increasing demand, together with our dedicated network of carriers. Our forward-thinking approach ensures that your goods are always on the move, reaching their destinations smoothly.

Navigating fuel price volatility

Fuel prices are a significant concern, with forecasts predicting increases due to global market dynamics. We stay ahead of the curve by implementing fuel-efficient practices and exploring alternative energy sources, such as our investment in e-trucks with our in-house carrier Vandijck. Our commitment to sustainability not only reduces our environmental footprint but also helps manage costs, ensuring competitive pricing for our clients.

Adapting to new tolling schemes

As the European Green Deal forces countries to implement ecological measures, new tolling schemes and CO2 components are being implemented across various EU countries, staying compliant and cost-effective can be challenging. From January 2025, Sweden will introduce a new CO2 tolling component, followed by Denmark and the Netherlands. Additionally, several EU countries are pressured to implement the Eurovignette directive, which will bring further changes and impact the costs of transport. At Vedrova, we are on top of these developments, adjusting our routing and logistics plans to minimize toll impacts. By proactively managing these changes, we ensure that your shipments remain timely and cost-efficient.
